2010 — Application for Presentation — Spokane
The 95th International Educational Conference of the International Association for Identification will be held July 11th - 17th, 2010 in Spokane, Washngton, USA.
The Educational Coordinator is requesting the submission of an abstract and learning objectives for all workshops (example provided); a brief synopsis of the learning objectives for all lectures (example provided); and a biographical sketch on all presenters (example provided). These submissions should be on all topics of interest to the investigative and forensic science community. Papers selected for presentation will be divided into two groups:
- Lectures
- Workshops
All presentations must be submitted through the Presentation Application Form. All Abstracts, Synopses, Biographical Sketches and any questions pertaining to your lecture or workshop must be electronically submitted separately to edcoordinator@theiai.org.
Please note: workshops are full at this time. If you are interested and would like to make application for a workshop please send your request directly to the edcoordinator at edcoordinator@theiai.org.
Applications for lectures are due by January 31st, 2010. The Educational Coordinator, in conjunction with the Sub-Committee Chairpersons, will approve or reject your application(s) for presentation within 60 days after the submission closing date for workshops and lectures.
Attention — Vendors
The IAI welcomes vendor presentations at the Annual Conference. Please note however that vendor presentations cannot be a commercial for a product or line of products (exception would only be if you are doing a presentation in the exhibitors' theater). Presentations may highlight and explain new technology, techniques or developments in procedures and methods. It is, for example, not permissible to make a presentation on a technique that can only be done with a vendor's product or showcase a developing technology that is only available from a particular vendor. Failure to abide by this policy may result in being prohibited from making presentations at future conferences. We anticipate and appreciate your adherence to this policy.
Lectures
General Information
Each presenter will be given an opportunity to select the forensic discipline for the lecture that is being presented. Select “General” if the lecture involves multiple disciplines, unless presenter has a preference to present before a certain discipline. IAI disciplines currently include:

Workshops
Workshops are full at this time.
Presenters who wish to have workshops will need to provide the coordinator with the number of workshops, the length of time for each and the maximum number of attendees per workshop.
The safety committee will work with the coordinator to ensure all appropriate safety issues are addressed for each workshop.
Content
Each lecture or workshop must address the material stated in the abstract or the synopsis of the presentation. The opening statement should acquaint the audience with the objectives and the presentation should be clear so that the audience can easily understand the specifics of the presentation. You should conclude with a summary and reserve time for audience questions.
Time
The final determination as to the length of time for a presentation rests with the Educational Coordinator and the Committee Chairpersons. However, for planning purposes, lectures will be broken down into any combination of 30-minute segments. All lectures must be at least 30 minutes in duration.
All workshops will contain a minimum of 2 hours, and must contain at least 50% of hands-on work by each attendee.
Audio-Visual Equipment
Requests for audio-visual equipment must be made on the Presentation Application Form. It is imperative that the presenter requests only the audio-visual equipment needed for the presentation. Laser pointers and laptops will be available upon request at the conference on-site IAI Presenter’s booth.
