During the 2008 Annual Conference of the IAI, the association’s two foundations, the R.L. Johnson Foundation and the William Whyte Foundation were consolidated into one and renamed the Johnson-Whyte Memorial Foundation Fund.
Robert L. Johnson Foundation was established in memory of Robert L. Johnson, who was instrumental in the formation of the IAI Latent Print Certification Board and served as its first Chairman. He was an active member of the International Association for Identification (IAI) for 18 years and was serving as the 2nd Vice President of the IAI at the time of his death. The purpose of the Robert L. Johnson Foundation was to promote the advancement and growth of Forensic Identification as a profession by offering financial grants for college scholarships and other educational and research projects consistent with the purposes of the IAI
The IAI and Helen Whyte, widow of William Whyte, recognizing the need for increased participation at the Annual Educational Conference by the members outside of the host country, created and established as, an integral part of the IAI, the “William Whyte Foundation,” instituted in memory of William Whyte, who died as the result of a heart attack suffered while serving on the IAI Board of Directors at the 1998 IAI Annual Educational Conference. The purpose of the Foundation was to provide educational grants for members of the IAI who live and work outside of the host country to assist them in attending the IAI Annual Educational Conference.
The merged fund reflects the goals and objectives of the former foundations and is in a better fiduciary position to accomplish those goals.
Unfortunately no scholarships will be awarded during 2009.
