Job Description
The Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory is recruiting for an experienced Forensic Scientist to manage the Physical Section of the lab, which includes Latent Print Examiners and Crime Scene Forensic Technicians.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college which included 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of science courses in the areas of chemistry, biology, physics, computer analysis, forensic sciences, or criminalistics
And
One year of experience as a Forensic Scientist III with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We are looking for applicants who can effectively demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of ASCLD/LAB International accreditation standards
- Working knowledge of the science of latent print analysis
- Working knowledge of evidence collection and preservation techniques
- Courtroom testimony experience
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Understanding of, or experience in supervising personnel
- Experience leading a group
- Managing projects, resources, and budgets
- Experience in case management, backlog management, and the ability to develop long and short term strategic plans
- Strong dedication to high performance standards

Recruitment and selection may be based on the areas of needed expertise in the agency.
Employees will be expected to successfully pass annual proficiency/competency tests.
Appointments to positions in the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory are subject to background requirements per ASCLD/LAB and the Department of Public Safety. A criminal background investigation, including fingerprinting, is required.
