Description
BAE Systems is looking for a Firearms and Tool Mark Examiner who fosters teamwork and cooperation to perform a variety of physical and microscopic laboratory tests, analyses, classifications, comparisons and identifications on all types of tool marks, firearms and ammunition and other types of physical evidence using established protocols. The candidate will also perform and provide supervision concerning various quality control procedures. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of evidence by using established handling protocols. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing examinations of ammunition, spent bullets and casings, and the determination and recording of their physical parameters using measuring projectors, micrometers and other equipment; performing examinations of firearms, bullets, shells, casings and other weapons; conducting comparison examinations regarding spent projectiles, spent cartridge casings and shot shells; data entry functions for the National Integrated Ballistics Identification Network (NIBIN) and the IBIS TRAX 3D System; conducting research, method development and validation of new technical procedures; chemical restorations of obliterated serial numbers and other markings on weapons; training firearms technicians and junior level firearms examiners; lead a team of firearms examiners; and other duties as required.
Requirements
Must have the following:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree coupled with 4 years of related experience; An Associate's degree coupled with 6 years of related experience; or a high school diploma coupled with 8 years of related experience.
- Certified as a Firearms and Tool Mark Examiner by AFTE
- Eligible for a secret level clearance
- Willing to deploy overseas for 6 months to 1 year incremental rotations
Preferences:
- Previous experience with IBIS and NIBIN database
