Senior Latent Print Examiner (Management Position)

The position of Senior Latent Print Examiner is immediately available within the Criminalistics section of the Onondaga County Center for Forensic Sciences. The Center for Forensic Sciences is a full-service ASCLD/LAB-International accredited forensic laboratory. The facility is nine years young and is outfitted with state of the art equipment and technology, including a fully digital environment within the Latent Print section for impression preservation, analyses, and comparisons. Candidates will be subjected to a criminal history background check prior to permanent appointment.

Salary

Up to $79,254 depending upon experience

Job Duties

The Senior Latent Print Examiner is responsible for the administrative supervision and technical direction of the Latent Print Section and for administrative supervision of the Questioned Documents Section. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to: conducting research, method development and validation of new technical procedures; directing training of new examiners; performing technical and administrative review of casework; performing quality control and quality assurance related tasks, processing physical evidence for the development of latent prints; comparison of latent prints to known prints; taking notes and generating reports; and testifying to findings in court.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a natural science, forensic science, criminalistics or a closely related field and six (6) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, as a forensic examiner in the discipline of Latent Prints.

NOTE: Education may be substituted for experience as follows:

A Master’s Degree in a natural science, forensic science, criminalistics or a closely related field can be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.
