Forensic Disciplines of the IAI
The IAI represents disciplines in the physical, pattern and crime scene sciences. Each discipline has a committee that serves as the professional representatives of that discipline within the IAI. These committees are designated Science and Practice Subcommittees. Members of the IAI Science and Practice Committee are considered to be leading experts in their professional fields. Many are instructors, authors, researchers and serve in standard setting and accreditation activities. Below are links for more information about each discipline of the IAI. More about the IAI Science and Practice Committee
- The Science and Practice Committee is composed of discipline related subcommittees that serve as the subject matter representatives within the IAI for the purposes of:
- Providing technical and discipline related information and viewpoints to the leaders of the IAI when requested and reach out to inform the leadership of important developments when appropriate.
- Encourage broad participation in the conference program from international experts in their disciplines.
- Serving as vetting committees and moderator organizers for their discipline related presentations at the annual IAI Educational Conference.
- Holding at least one meeting at the Annual Educational Conference.
- Maintaining an informational website about their discipline on the IAI Website.
- Submit articles to the Publications of the IAI; the Identification News and the Journal of Forensic Identification.

Structure and Serving on the Science and Practice Committee
Each discipline subcommittee is composed of one chair and (6) subcommittee members. There are no term limits for subcommittee members. There is a term limit of (4) years for each chair, with a maximum of (2) terms. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please reach out to the Chair of the Science and Practice Committee or the individual Chair of the subcommittee discipline you are interested in. The decision to appoint individuals to the committee is made by the incoming IAI President who considers the recommendations made by the committee.
